The Childbirth Center
Riverstone Tower, Second Floor
865-373-4299
Recognizing the birth of a child as one of the most significant events in the lives of women and their families, Parkwest has designed its Childbirth Center to ensure a memorable and comfortable experience.
A “Suite” Welcome for Your Baby
The center includes 20 childbirth suites, a spacious nursery, and two operating suites. With the latest in security and communications systems, the center is designed so that our highly qualified staff are close by to support you throughout your birth experience.
The Childbirth Center offers resort-style accommodations. Our cozy private suites allow you to labor, deliver, and recover in a beautifully decorated and comfortable room, with “hospital equipment” concealed until needed. Our spacious suites accommodate family participation in the birthing experience, and menu items are available for siblings during their stay.
A bassinet is provided so baby can stay in the room, and there is a sleep area for family members. A nursery staffed by experts in neonatal care is also available for your newborn as needed.
An entertainment center provides television, cable, and internet access. As an added amenity, you have access to your very own whirlpool tub for relaxing tired muscles and finding a peaceful moment to reflect on this special time. On-site massage therapy is also available by appointment.
Experienced Care for Moms and Newborns
At Parkwest Medical Center, we want to create special memories through our family-centered approach to the birth of your child. Our caring team of physicians and childbirth professionals will listen to your concerns and tailor your labor/delivery experience to meet the needs of you and your family. Our experienced obstetricians and staff deliver nearly 1,300 babies each year, and our RN staff is 100 percent certified in neonatal resucitation. They are available to provide you and your family with excellent care, and answer your questions about caring for your new baby.
We also have nurse clinicians from East Tennessee Children's Hospital on staff to assist your baby if needed. If emergency care is required, neonatologists from Children's Hospital are on call 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week to work with your obstetrician. Surgical suites are also available if a cesarean delivery is scheduled or becomes necessary.
From Pre-Pregnancy Planning to Birth and Beyond
From preconception planning to parenting, the center offers a wide range of resources to meet your changing needs. Our popular Teddy Bear University classes cover nearly every aspect of pregnancy, labor, delivery, and caring for your newborn. Classes also include breathing techniques for labor, breastfeeding, sibling and grandparent classes. For class schedules, call (865) 374-PARK, or click on the Teddy Bear University icon on this website.
Breastfeeding Support
Parkwest offers breastfeeding classes and employs internationally board certified lactation consultants who visit with breastfeeding moms while they are in the hospital. In addition to the breastfeeding assistance provided by our Childbirth Center nurses, lactation consultants can help with latch-on difficulties and other feeding problems during baby’s earliest days.
Security for You and Your Baby
Your newborn's safety is a top priority. The Childbirth Center is a secured area with monitored entries and exits. Video surveillance cameras are used to help security officers track any uncommon activity. We constantly upgrade our equipment with the most effective, yet unobtrusive, security methods. Parkwest uses an advanced infant protection system, and our staff regularly participates in education, training and drills related to infant security.
Picture This. . .
At your request, a photo of your baby can be taken and posted on the Parkwest Net Nursery web site so you can show off your baby to relatives, co-workers, and friends anywhere in the world. The service is free and allows family and friends with Internet access to share the joy of your newborn. Due to patient privacy regulations, the baby's family must give a secure PIN code to anyone who wants to view pictures of the baby on the Net Nursery web site.
