    What is The Retreat?
    The Parkwest Joint Center - Retreat is specifically designed for total knee and total hip patients. Participants are involved in group therapy which allows them to easily interact with others who are going through the same procedure; making their camaraderie one of the best motivators of all.

    What makes The Retreat experience better?
    Patients of The Retreat benefit from a quicker recovery. Extra steps are taken to prevent nausea from anesthesia after surgery and patients are often able to begin therapy to regain mobility the same day as their surgery. We see that The Retreat patients are achieving 5 times greater of a distance than patients who had total joint surgery before The Retreat opened.

    What will my experience be like?
    You will be introduced to The Retreat at an educational session where you learn what to expect during your stay. Patients are encouraged to have a Coach by their side who can be either a family member or friend. Family involvement and active participation by patients is encouraged. In The Group Room patients receive group therapy, enjoy meals and socialize.

    How long is the hospital stay?
    Most patients stay in the Joint Center for three days.

    If you suffer from chronic joint pain in your hips or knees, you may be a great candidate. You may experience arthritis or pain that interferes with daily activities like walking, exercise and work which is holding you back from the things you enjoy most. Talk with your physician to determine your plan of care.

    The Joint Retreat is spearheaded by the Joint Care Coordinator who can be contacted at (865) 373-4498.

    Where is it located?
    It is located within Parkwest Medical Center which is located at 9352 Park West Blvd. just off Cedar Bluff in West Knoxville. The joint center is on the fourth floor of the Riverstone Tower.

    Who are the medical directors?
    Drs. Hal Cates and Paul Naylor are the Co-Medical Directors of The Retreat. Together, they partner decades of expertise with new technology to provide you the best joint replacement outcome possible.

    Who is the team of professionals involved in The Retreat?
    The Parkwest Joint Center team includes patients, family, nurses, techs, physical therapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, secretaries, case managers, administration, marketing, physician assistants, anesthesiologists, internists, surgeons and volunteers.

    How do I become a Patient?
    To become a patient of The Retreat, you must be a patient of an orthopedic physician who has privileges with Parkwest Medical Center.
