Exam Information:
Patients are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing with minimal jewelry and metal. Some exams may require removal of earrings, necklaces, hair pins, dentures, partials, etc. to ensure quality images.

Always inform the Technologist or RN if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.

Upon registration, patients will be escorted to our Out-patient waiting area. The patient will be requested to complete a medical history form. If Lab work is required, this will be completed prior to the exam. A Technologist or RN will explain the procedure prior to the exam and answer questions.

All information regarding patient preps will be provided by Centralized Scheduling. For some exams, patients may be required to drink barium and will be encouraged to drink plenty of fluids post procedure. Patients on blood thinners may be required to stop taking the medication prior to the exam. Consult your physician or call Imaging Services before stopping any medication.

If your physician requests copies of your exam, a CD will be provided prior to your discharge.

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a non-invasive procedure that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed image of the body. Unlike conventional radiography and CT, no radiation is used. All Technologists are ARRT registered with advanced registry.

Exam Information:
A technologist or tech aide will call the patient the night prior to the exam. During this call the staff representative questions patients about metal implants, pacemakers, etc. and address any questions. Patients are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing without metal and no jewelry.

Upon registration, patients will be escorted to our Out-patient waiting area. The patient will be requested to complete a medical history form. A technologist or tech aide will explain the procedure prior to the exam, review the medical history form and ask safety questions about metal implants, pacemakers, etc.

Patients will be changed into hospital gowns prior to the exam, or the patient may be allowed to wear a sweat suit or similar clothing without metal fasteners.

Because of the strong magnets, certain metal objects are not allowed into the room:

• Items such as jewelry, watches, credit cards and hearing aids can be damaged.
• Pins, hair pins, metal zippers and similar objects.
• Removable dental work should be taken out prior to the exam.
• Pens, pocketknives, and eyeglasses etc. can be dangerous projectiles and should not be taken into the magnet room.

MRI also should not be used for people with metal objects in their bodies, such as:

• Inner ear (cochlear) implants
• Some brain aneurysm clips
• Some artificial heart valves
• Older vascular stents
• Recently placed artificial joints
• Pacemakers

Patients who are claustrophobic may not be able to complete the exam. Ear plugs will be provided for the patient due to the loud noises generated from the MRI during normal operation. Exam time may be 45 minutes or greater. Some procedures require IV contrast after the initial exam. A technologist or RN will start your IV line (INT) so the contrast can be injected and the second phase of the scan will be completed.

Testing can take as little as 30 minutes or may require a longer time depending upon the exam ordered. Some tests require the patient to be scanned and then a waiting period before the patient is brought back for a second scanning time. If your physician requests copies of your exam, a CD will be provided prior to your discharge.

Exam Information:
An RN will call the patient prior to the procedure. During this call the RN will review pertinent patient information and history, i.e. prior exams, current medications, etc., and answer any questions.

Always inform the technologist or RN if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.

Patients will be required to report to the hospital 2 hours prior to their exam. Patients must have an adult to drive them home post procedure and care for them at home. Patients on blood thinners may be required to stop taking the medication prior to the exam. Consult your physician or call Imaging Services before stopping any medication.

Upon arrival, patients will be registered. After registration is complete, the patient will be taken to Ambulatory Staging for preparation of the exam, i.e. medical history, IV line started if required, site preparation, etc.

The Interventional Radiologist will explain the procedure prior to the exam and consult with the family to answer questions. The procedure may require conscious sedation with an IV, and the patient will be monitored at all times by an RN. Actual procedure time will vary dependent upon the type of procedure.

Exam Information:

After registration of non-invasive Ultrasound patients, the patient will be escorted to our Out-patient waiting area. The patient will be requested to complete a medical history form. If Lab work is required, this will be completed prior to the exam. A Sonographer will explain the procedure prior to the exam and answer questions.

For invasive Ultrasound, patients are required to report to the hospital 2 hours prior to their exam. Patients having an invasive procedure or requiring sedation must have an adult to drive them home from the hospital and to care for them at home post procedure. Patients on blood thinners may be required to stop taking the medication prior to the exam. Consult your physician or call Imaging Services before stopping any medication.

After registration is complete, the patient will be taken to Ambulatory Staging for preparation of the exam, i.e. medical history, IV line started if required, site preparation, etc. The Interventional Radiologist will explain the invasive procedure prior to the exam and answer questions.

If your physician requests copies of your exam, a CD will be provided prior to your discharge.
