The Oncology Unit at Parkwest offers a comprehensive approach to patient care which minimizes patient disruption and maximizes clinical quality and efficiency. Cancer patients and their families can be assured their loved ones will receive the most complete and exceptional oncology care available.
Within Parkwest’s Oncology Unit, many RNs have oncology certifications, and chemotherapy-trained nurses work with oncologists to make sure each patient receives the correct chemotherapy drug, in the right dosage cycle, every time.
Thompson Radiation Oncology Services, a department of Parkwest Medical Center, is located on the first floor of Thompson Cancer Survival Center – West. Radiation therapy is a treatment used by physicians (called radiation oncologists) to treat a variety of cancers. Radiation oncologists use radiation therapy either as a primary treatment for tumors or in conjunction with other therapies (surgical, chemo, hormone, or a combination of these). It is used as palliative treatment (where cure is not possible but relief of symptoms or a slowdown of disease progression is attainable).
Thompson PET Services, a department of Parkwest Medical Center, is located on the first floor of Thompson Cancer Survival Center – West. The center is accredited in positron emission tomography by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This accreditation assures patients that their treatment meets the most rigid standards of excellence mandated by the ACR.
