Parkwest Community Engagement Plan

The requirement of not-for-profit hospitals is to complete a community health needs assessment and to work on solutions for the most significant assessment findings. The Community Engagement Plan defines what activities the hospital is committing to for a healthier population.

Significant Priorities / Issues

Achieving Equitable Health Outcomes

Goal

Assure access to high quality and affordable mental health services for Knox County.

Action Plan

Parkwest will offer a variety of mental health and medical detoxification programs for children, adolescents and adults, even when doing so results in considerable financial loss.

Goal

Increase the percent of the population that report regular physical activity.

Action Plan

Parkwest will promote physical activity whereby participants can earn a “Parkwest Patch” once they have completed the 42 miles of Knoxville greenways and trails. Parkwest employees will lead weekend walks.

Strengthening Community Partnerships Action

Goal

Assist employers with identifying and managing employee physical and emotional health needs.

Action Plan

Parkwest will partner with Knox County employers to assist with their worksite employee health program using the tools and resources of Covenant’s HealthQuest program.

Goal

Improve academic outcomes of at-risk students.

Action Plan

Parkwest will provide facility upgrades, mentoring, and school uniforms for the Richard Yoakley Transition School, an alternative school for at-risk high school students.

Positioning Health as a Consideration in our Policy and Planning

Goal

Increase participation in Covenant Health’s employee health program by 10% each year.

Action Plan

Incentivize employees to engage in Covenant Health’s wellness program to obtain the lowest level of pricing of health insurance premiums.
