A nurse at Parkwest Medical Center was honored today with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days. Congratulations to Crystal, an RN, on 2 Dogwood for being recognized with the DAISY award. Crystal was nominated by a patient for her compassionate nursing care and the everlasting impact she made on her patient’s life.
Crystal’s Nomination
“When I was first brought to Parkwest, I was in a state of very poor health, physically and mentally. I felt very alone. I was scared, sad and ashamed. All the staff here have honestly touched my heart with the many stories they shared with me. They shared stories about overcoming diversity and other major hurdles one goes through in life. The way the staff carried themselves, and the way they communicated to me was amazing. Crystal in particular truly touched my heart and just the strength she had clearly shines through. She reminded me of who I was and helped me to be comfortable with myself. She never once made me feel ashamed and honestly just her presence in general made me feel blessed to be alive. It was at that point that I felt myself getting stronger every time she was around or when she was caring for me. It is hard to explain but I feel like Crystal is one of those people that is a gift to this world. She is so full of life. She is hopeful, passionate, energetic and a pleasure to be around. She gives people strength and inspiration and recharges their will to live.”
