A nurse at Parkwest Medical Center was honored today with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days. Congratulations to Barbara an RN, in the Emergency Department for being recognized with the DAISY award. Barbara was nominated by a family member of a patient for the amazing care and support she provided during their hospital stay.
“My mother, Marsha Fowler, was admitted to ER on October 28, 2020 with severe sepsis. Barbara was one of her attending nurses. She was so, kind, caring, and patient with my mother. I was extremely upset, emotional, and confused about her condition and Barbara explained things to me about my mother’s sepsis in a way that I could understand.
Barbara also made time from her hectic ER schedule to talk to me and calm me down. I can’t imagine how stressed all nurses are at this time, especially in the ER and for her to take time and give me so much personal attention and comfort meant so much to me and my mother. Barbara made me feel like my mom and I mattered to her. I appreciate Barbara’s kindness and assistance so much.”
Barbara was presented with a certificate, a pin, daisy arrangement, The Healer’s Touch sculpture and cinnamon rolls for her and her department to enjoy! Congratulations to Barbara! We appreciate her dedication to nursing and for always going above and beyond for her patients!
