A nurse at Parkwest Medical Center was honored this morning with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days. Today The DAISY Award was presented to Heather Scudder, RN, from our Orthopedic Floor, 5 Riverstone. Vice president of operations, Jason Draper presented Heather’s DAISY award, alongside her co-workers and the DAISY committee.
Heather was nominated by Edith McPeek for the wonderful care she provided during her stay. McPeek was present for today’s celebration. Here’s the nomination she submitted on Heather’s behalf,
“I wanted to fill up the entire page all about my caring nurse during my knee surgery stay! They were all just great. They were experts and excellent in every way possible. But I could name only one person who greatly affected so much of my 3-day stay at Parkwest. And I came up with Heather! She has been the epitome of a perfect nurse with her kindness, sweetness, efficiency, timeliness, response, all kinds of compassion and willingness to listen to my problems, considerate, great compassion for not only me but, but respect for my family and visitors. She is a sound Christian person which makes her a joy to talk with! Never grumpy or cross – Just a joy to know. God has put some very special nurses in my life during the past 3 days and I will always treasure them with fond memories of their kind assistance and care for me – straight from the heart!
I pray that God will bless, not only Heather, but every RN, CNA, Lab, Housekeeping and therapy personnel that I was privileged to meet. Special thanks to Dr. Harold Cates and his staff – such talent and expertise and caring. Also I could have nominated Liz, Sara, Ann. Altogether they made my visit simply a joy! What an experience I’ve had here. Thanks for all the encouraging words during every minute. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you all. God Bless each and every one – not just the ones that were mentioned; but the entire staff!”
The DAISY Committee presented Heather with a pin, a certificate, daisies, The Healer’s Touch sculpture, and cinnamon rolls for her entire department to share. Congratulations to Heather! We appreciate her passion for nursing, and her commitment to always putting her patients first!
