Scott Barnett, RN, Honored with DAISY Award

A nurse at Parkwest Medical Center was honored today with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days. Congratulations to Scott, an RN, in our Enterostomal Therapy Department  for being recognized with the DAISY award.  Scott was nominated by two physicians for the guidance and support that he gives Parkwest’s physician team every day and  providing exceptional care to his patients.

“We would like to recognize Scott Barnett for being a nurse that our hospitalist team has come to rely on and trust. Scott’s input and judgement are highly respected among our physicians and we attribute many patient successes to his care. Scott is always there when asked to see a patient and he is considered a colleague and a friend. Scott, along with our wound care team, has more impact than any doctor on decreasing readmission rates because his team touches all of our high risk patients. We count on his expertise and know patient outcomes are improved when he is on the case.

A recent case in particular deserves mentioning as an example of the skill and competence that Scott displays every day. We received a patient in the ED and consulted wound care team for assistance. Scott came down to evaluate the patient and recognized the potential severity of the patient’s injury and the need for elevation of his care to a specialized center. Scott called the specialized center and described the situation to them. The center was happy to take the patient and agreed the patient was high risk for serious tissue damage despite having a seemingly benign appearance. The patient was transferred to the appropriate facility and within 24 hours the patient had been able to receive the necessary care they needed. Interventions were done that otherwise could have been delayed more than 48 hours if Scott had not been quick to assess the condition of the patient and initiate getting them the appropriate care they needed quickly. Scott truly represents the highest level of clinical excellence daily and we continue to be grateful we have his guidance with our cases. Scott deserves to be recognized for all he does for his patients and our physician team.”
