Sherry Waterman, RN, Honored with DAISY Award

A nurse at Parkwest Medical Center was honored today with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days. Congratulations to Sherry, an RN in our Childbirth Center for being recognized with the DAISY award.  Sherry was nominated by a patient for the outstanding care and support she provided during her delivery and hospital stay.

“I was admitted to be induced with my first baby girl at Parkwest Medical Center at midnight on May 11, 2021. Sherry walked in and introduced herself as my nurse. I was very nervous upon arrival and Sherry had a calming presence and I felt like I had known her my whole life. She immediately explained the process of how everything worked and she even had a great sense of humor to take my husband’s jokes.

She proved herself competent within minutes of us meeting her. My induction began and the labor pains started getting more and more intense and Sherry explained all of my options for pain medicines and once we decided on an option, she was there quickly to give me relief.

The pain medicine wore off and I found myself needing an epidural as quickly as they could come. Sherry went above and beyond to make sure the CRNA could come and give me some relief before his surgery began. Within minutes of Sherry calling the CRNA, Sherry was literally holding me up, hugging me and comforting me while the CRNA placed the epidural.

The DAISY Committee and Senior Leadership presented the award to Sherry.

She felt more like a family member or friend during that time than my nurse. It was evident to me that Sherry cared so much about her job and that she truly values her patients and treats them with the upmost dignity and respect. We requested to have Sherry as our nurse the next night she was back and we were so relieved when she walked through our door to be our nurse. She made my labor experience more comfortable and enjoyable and she truly deserves The DAISY Award to be recognized for her excellent nursing care and professionalism.”

Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues, and they are chosen by a committee at Parkwest Medical Center to receive The DAISY Award. To nominate a nurse today visit www.TreatedWell.com/DAISY.
