Staff Throwback Thursday
Welcome to our new weekly feature — Staff Throwback Thursday! In this feature we’ll be checking in with employees who have worked with Parkwest/Covenant Health for more than twenty years! We hope you enjoy learning more about our long-term employees!
Stephanie Moore, Continuum of Care, Coordinator of Quality and Case Management
- How long have you worked at Parkwest/Covenant Health? I started at Parkwest on February 9, 1998. I’ve worked as a: CNA, staff nurse (days and nights), admission/discharge nurse, Shift Leader (days and nights), float pool staff nurse, 4M educator, and staff case manager.
- How much has the hospital grown or changed since you were hired? Not only has the physical structure changed numerous times, but the clinical care and the services provided have expanded exponentially. When I began, hospitalists was not even on the radar, EVERYTHING was on paper, and we had A LOT of semi-private rooms.
- What’s your favorite memory of working at Parkwest? One of my first clinical experiences in nursing school was on 3east/central. Linda Minton was the nurse assigned as primary nurse for my assigned patient. This little lady was confused and would not take her medication for me ( her meds had to be crushed and given in ice cream). I was disappointed in myself, questioning if I could do this nursing thing. Linda came to me and said “come on hon, let me show you how to do this.” Linda was the nurse I had always wanted to be and after we gave the patient her medicine she encouraged me to keep learning and not give up. That day I applied for a job on that floor as a PRN CNA so I could work with Linda and all the others to learn. And I have never left.
- What’s kept you at Parkwest over twenty years? The care we provide and the culture we maintain.
