Congratulations to Will Bowen, a Peri-op Tech in the Ambulatory Staging Unit, for being recognized with the BEE award. Will was nominated by a department assistant in our customer relations department.
“I work in surgery waiting and when a patient is transferred to the floor after surgery, our ASU transport personnel will call us with a patient’s name and room number so we can send family to the room to be with the patient.
On Friday, July 24, I witnessed something very kind. Will was taking a patient back to his room after surgery and on the way back to the patient’s room, the patient mentioned to Will that his partner was very worried and upset. He was afraid she couldn’t find her way back to the room.
So, Will didn’t call us as usual. He came down to surgery waiting area and asked me to find the family member. He went over to her and introduced himself and explained that he just took the patient back to the room and he wanted to make sure she got back to the room OK.
I know it doesn’t seem like much but I had interacted with the guest that day several times and she was very timid, nervous and exhausted. She had told me that they came to the ER a couple of days ago and she wasn’t sure where she parked. She needed to go to her car and get her medication, which she hadn’t taken in two days. Will didn’t know any of that. He just knew his patient was concerned about his loved one getting lost and being upset. Will, just being Will, without a second thought came down and personally assisted her.”
