Parkwest Therapy Center Manager Receives 2016 Buscetta Award

Mark Conley, manager of Parkwest Therapy Center, has been named winner of the 2016 Buscetta Award, given annually to an outstanding Covenant Health manager who personifies leadership excellence. The award was presented by president and CEO Tony Spezia earlier this month.

Nominations for the fifth annual presentation were submitted by Covenant Health’s senior leaders. Buscetta finalists were evaluated in areas such as quality, service, growth, finance/cost management and developing people, along with achievements related to systemwide alignment and innovation. In announcing the finalists, Spezia said they represented “the very best of Covenant Health’s leadership.” The award is named for Sam Buscetta, retired executive vice president for human resources, who was instrumental in launching Covenant Health’s Journey to Excellence initiative.

Spezia also presented awards for outstanding service and dedication to two special Covenant Health leaders. Phil Carney, former director of diagnostic services at LeConte Medical Center, was honored posthumously for his service to the hospital. Kendra Schnoor, director of the cath lab at Methodist Medical Center from 2011-2015, was honored for her years of service at Methodist and other Covenant facilities. Both were recognized for loyalty and dedication to Covenant’s mission, vision and values; for tireless advocacy for excellence, and for serving both patients and colleagues with compassion, humility and integrity.

In congratulating the Buscetta finalists, Spezia noted that strong leadership is critical to Covenant Health’s success, and said managers and directors are important to operations and communications throughout the system.

“Buscetta award nominees have an understanding of how our hospitals and facilities function, and often work shoulder-to-shoulder with their colleagues to help their departments run smoothly. In addition, they are often mentors, advisors, and confidantes,” he said.

In addition to Mark Conley, Phil Carney and Kendra Schnoor, the 2016 Buscetta Award finalists are:

  • Donita Beard, manager, ICU & Med/Surg, Roane Medical Center
  • Steven Cupp, director of nursing, Claiborne Nursing Home

  • Pam Ollard, rehab manager, Fort Loudoun Medical Center
  • Jason Raiford-Davis, manager, surgical services, Parkwest Medical Center
